The truth about 'no win, no fee'
Q12 Might I lose my job if I make a claim against my employer?
All employers are required by law to hold appropriate insurance to cover claims arising from accidents at work that result in injuries to employees.
‘… employers are not normally able to sack you if you are injured from an accident at work’
Workplace injuries are serious (the Health and Safety Executive has clear rules and practices about workplace safety) and employers are not normally able to sack you if you are injured from an accident at work. It is quite acceptable to take a reasonable amount of time in which to recover.
If you are injured at work, it is HSE practice that your injury is entered into the workplace Accident Book, if there is one. If you are able, it is worth ensuring that this is done.
But don’t worry if that hasn’t happened in your case. Just make sure that you don’t delay in taking steps to make a claim – this is especially important if the symptoms of your injury become apparent some time after the original incident, or if the injury was serious – see Is there a time limit on making a claim?
Employers can't normally sack you for being injured at work or claiming against them because of the injury. If you are injured at work, it’s a good idea to ensure it gets entered in the workplace ‘Accident Book’
